Pinoy figure skater Michael Christian Martinez became the first Filipino qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics after finishing in seventh place in the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy held in Obersdorf, Germany last Spetember 28, 2013.
The 16-year-old athlete who loves dancing and computer games is from Muntinlupa. He started skating competitively in 2008 and became the first Filipino skater to perform a triple Axel in a competition, according to his biography in the International Skating Union (ISU.)
Nobunari Oda from Japan won the gold medal in the men’s event of the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy, followed by Jason Brown from United States and Jeremy Ten from Canada.
